Originally a town hall for the mining town in the area, the Amargosa was abandoned by the 1960s, which is when a ballerina from New York named Marta Becket stopped for car repairs and ended up buying and restoring it. Becket painted murals on the walls and performed her choreography on stage until she was in her 80s. It's a surprising and fragile gem in the middle of nowhere and a personal favorite stop. Well worth paying for the tour.
