How to Remove the 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL’s Roof, Doors, and Windshield
Jeep has made the process of field-stripping a Wrangler easier than ever, but it's still a task.

So you’ve picked up your new Jeep Wrangler JL. The sun’s shining, there’s a muddy trail or a beach in your future, and you want to strip your four-by-four down to the essentials for a wind-in-your-everything cruise. Good news! The Wrangler is designed—and has been for decades—to be partly disassembled for that very purpose. You can take off the roof, the doors, and even the windshield, although, as Jeep points out, those last two items should be removed only for “off-road use.”Having recently enjoyed some time in the Wrangler JL Rubicon in some nice summertime Michigan weather, we stripped it down to the base elements to show you how it’s done. Click through to see the Wrangler taken from nearly civilized to completely feral.
Note that our Rubicon came with Jeep’s Freedom Top three-piece hard top, so this story focuses on that component’s removal. There are two soft tops available. One is nicer and has more padding and springs to ease its lowering and raising, and both can be folded down or removed entirely to make room for the hard top, should you decide to purchase both hard and soft roofs.
