Overview

Although it's the smallest SUV that Audi sells in the U.S., the Q3 is big on style, technology, and luxury. The 2019 Audi Q3 is all new and replaces an aged and minimally competitive 2018 model that finished last in a comparison test against the BMW X1, the Lexus NX, and the Mercedes-Benz GLA-class.

Engines, Ride, and Handling

The Q3 is powered by a 228-hp turbocharged four-cylinder engine and comes standard with both an eight-speed automatic transmission and Audi's Quattro all-wheel drive. We sampled a European-spec version of the Q3 in northern Italy and noted that the engine provided ample power, while the suspension damped out all but the harshest road imperfections. Direct steering with a light-to-the-touch feel gives the Q3 a sense of agility. The little SUV moves with the same grace as its larger siblings when pitched down a twisty section of road.

Interior and Technology

The new model's cabin addresses all of our complaints about that of the outgoing Q3, with a much improved driving position, a user-friendly layout of its controls, and finer materials. Leather is standard and a contrasting faux-suede insert on the dashboard lends a rich appearance. The cabin is also more spacious than the previous model and boasts more modern tech such as either an 8.8- or 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment display and an optional digital gauge cluster. We expect a full suite of driver-assistance tech as well and should include things such as lane-keeping assist, automated emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control. We'll know more about pricing and feature availability closer to the Q3's on-sale date, which will happen later this summer.
