Audi's mid-engined supercar gains some sharper edges from a mid-cycle refresh yet still is approachably docile as an everyday vehicle.
The 2020 Audi R8, now in its second generation as the brand's mid-engine sports car, has received a mid-cycle refresh. Updates include a revised look, stickier tires, and a few suspension changes, while the base V10 model also gets more power. Read the full story here.
The entry-level V10 model gets an increase of 30 horsepower for a total of 562. The output of the R8 Performance remains at 602 horsepower.
The R8's 5.2-liter V-10, which is shared with the Lamborghini Huracán Evo, comes on strong above 4000 rpm and revs to 8700 rpm.
Audi's most expensive model still shares much of its chassis and components, including its seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, with the Lamborghini Huracán Evo.
The updated R8's more angular front end incorporates upright winglet-style elements on both sides with fake vents, as well as a new, wider honeycomb grille and darkened headlamps.
The R8's revised rear bumper features honeycomb air vents, massive RS-style oval exhaust pipes, and a more serious rear diffuser.
We expect the R8 Performance to crack 60 mph in 2.8 seconds when utilizing its launch-control system, which allows you to rev the V-10 to 4500 rpm before dropping the clutch when you releasing the brake pedal.
Like the wheels of the Audi RS5, the R8's new forged-aluminum rollers are cut on a mill for more complex angular patterns.
The R8 V10 performance models now come standard with 20-inch wheels in a titanium finish. An anthracite finish is optional.
The R8's interior features Audi's Virtual Cockpit with Sport mode and MMI Navigation Plus as standard, plus LED interior lighting and a Bang & Olufsen sound system with 13 speakers.
For a more sinister look, the R8 V10 Performance model also is available with black badges and Audi's four-ring emblem.
